Introduction This Project Rachel program is intended to reach out to women experiencing grief from the loss of a child by abortion, and to offer them reconciliation and healing. The Project Rachel messages do not speak about, or for, those women who have experienced only relief or satisfaction after abortion. But they can and do reflect — in their own words — women who have suffered because of their abortions. This outreach is not about the debate in the medical literature regarding whether or not abortion has predictable, adverse psychological consequences for women.

Traumatization can also result from neglect, which is the absence of essential physical or emotional care, soothing, and restorative experiences from significant others, particularly in children.
These include a history of prior traumatization, especially chronic child abuse and neglect; poor psychological adjustment prior to the event; family history of psychopathology; perceived threat to life during the event; and peritraumatic emotional reactions and dissociation Brewin et al.
In fact, peritraumatic dissociation is a strong predictor of PTSD e. Women are more prone to PTSD than men, perhaps because they are more likely to experience interpersonal violence, or perhaps because of hormonal and brain differences.
Children are more vulnerable than adults because their brains are not mature enough to integrate what has happened: And finally, those with less social support are more likely to develop the disorder than those with adequate relationships and support Brewin et al.
